Managing Values for Success – Integrity, Pride, and Professionalism

An axiom of life is that it is 10% circumstances (what happens to you) and 90% interpretation (what you do or how you react to what happens to you.) The path any practice takes is filled with the unexpected ups as well as downs. How you choose to respond to either will determine the outcome.

Most people wait for or try to make the right circumstances happen in order to be successful. In this engaging seminar you will learn the power of operating principles, as well as the ones that will steer you and your practice through the unexpected twists and turns, so that your future and your vision for it come into alignment, regardless of the circumstances.

The operating principles also serve as the foundation for creating your practice’s purpose and the central rallying point for training your team in creating your vision. This engaging webinar won’t tell you what to do so much as to support you in how to think and how to train others in your thinking.

Presenter Bio:
Over the past 25 years, Joan has led more than 2,000 seminars and has trained hundreds of orthodontists in effective communication skills, self-expression, customer service, team-building, and other related topics that enable individuals to experience life more fully and accomplish their goals. As one of her many fans has stated: "She says what every doctor wants their staff to hear and what every staff wants their doctor to hear." Her high energy level, sense of humor, and enthusiasm inspire people to action, giving them a renewed sense of purpose and the resources for self-motivation.

The Three Hats We Wear as Orthodontists

Every day as an orthodontist there are letters to sign, treatment plans to do, and, oh yeah, there is that staff person we need to talk to, and dentists we need to call. And then there’s payroll to get out, supplies to order, that new chairside assistant to train, and, yes, we must do something about marketing now that the economy is poor and our starts are down. Too often, all that is required of us as an owner of a practice can overwhelm us. This seminar shows you the way out, clarifying your three essential roles, giving you a practical plan to free up your time, and teaching you how to be successful orthodontist without burning out.

After orthodontic residency, he served on the faculty of the Wake Forest University’s School of Medicine, Department of Dentistry for four years before entering private practice. During the next twenty years, he and Dr. Bruce McLain built a three-office orthodontic practice with a staff of more than 25 employees near Winston-Salem, NC.

In 2005, Dr. Steedle joined the part-time faculty at the Department of Orthodontics in Chapel Hill. Instrument Materials and Sterilization Compatibility - Making Informed Choices

Orthodontic instruments present a unique challenge to conventional infection control procedures. The basic design of hinged instruments with non-stainless jaw components (many with sharp edges) has traditionally required special consideration in infection control protocols. The move by key state dental boards to consolidate regulations for more uniform oversight has placed orthodontic instrument inventories at high risk for increased repair, maintenance, and replacement. This program will address compatibility issues with instrument materials and sterilization/cleaning methods. It will review the choices available for today’s orthodontist and how those options can be maximized.
